Apple decouples from Nasdaq, offering alternative to AI-fueled volatility

It's been nearly 20 years since Apple was this untethered from its tech peers, giving investors an appealing alternative to the artificial intelligence-fueled volatility that has gripped most other corners of the stock market in recent weeks. Apple's 40-day correlation to the Nasdaq 100 Index tumbled to 0.21 last week, the lowest since 2006, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Its correlation with the benchmark has been on the decline since May, when it reached 0.92, as Apple's decision to mostly sit out the AI arms race has turned it into an outlier compared with many of its rivals. A correlation of 1 means the two securities are moving in perfect unison, while a reading of -1 signals they are moving opposite each other. "Apple's lack of correlation is 100% a positive right now," said Art Hogan, who helps oversee $25 billion as chief market strategist at B. Riley Wealth.


South Korea says civilians sent drones to North Korea four times, harming ties

The trio flew the aircraft between September and January, Chung said, citing an ongoing investigation by police and the military. Drones crashed on two occasions in North Korea, in line with claims made by Pyongyang, he said. On two other attempts the drones returned to Paju, a border settlement in South Korea, after flying over Kaesong, a city in North Korea, Chung said.

It will be held from April 27 to 29, with the first two days reserved for businesses and the final day open to the public. "(SusHi Tech Tokyo) has grown into Asia's largest innovation conference," Manabu Miyasaka, Tokyo's deputy governor, said on Monday.

Insatiable demand for AI infrastructure has sent memory prices skyrocketing in recent months, boosting shares of chipmakers such as Kioxia Holdings to record highs.

Access to expert knowledge often requires real-time human communication. Digital tools improve access to information but rarely create the sense of connection needed for deep understanding. This study addresses this issue using Social Presence Theory, which explains how a feeling of "being together" enhances communication. An "Embodied Information Hub" is proposed as a new way to share knowledge through physical and conversational interaction. The prototype, Suzume-chan, is a small, soft AI agent running locally with a language model and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG). It learns from spoken explanations and responds through dialogue, reducing psychological distance and making knowledge sharing warmer and more human-centered.

In recent years, many countries, including Japan, have rapidly aging populations, making the preservation of seniors' quality of life a significant concern. For elderly people with impaired physical abilities, support for toileting is one of the most important issues. This paper details the design, development, experimental assessment, and potential application of the gripper system, with a focus on the unique requirements and obstacles involved in aiding elderly or hemiplegic individuals in dressing and undressing trousers. The gripper we propose seeks to find the right balance between compliance and grasping forces, ensuring precise manipulation while maintaining a safe and compliant interaction with the users. The gripper's integration into a custom--built robotic manipulator system provides a comprehensive solution for assisting hemiplegic individuals in their dressing and undressing tasks. Experimental evaluations and comparisons with existing studies demonstrate the gripper's ability to successfully assist in both dressing and dressing of trousers in confined spaces with a high success rate. This research contributes to the advancement of assistive robotics, empowering elderly, and physically impaired individuals to maintain their independence and improve their quality of life.
